It’s your LOFT

I have been trying for years to improve my game.  I have been to practice ranges. Found the analytics of the various simulators (some better than others). Watched numerous videos online on how to get a grip, correct a slice, and how to just make contact with the ball!  I have even had the wonderful unsolicited advice from strangers as I hack away….  Which is always helpful – in irritating a person.

One night at an indoor golf league, I got paired with a gentleman.  A golfer out of his prime, but still had some game.

After warm-ups and several holes played,  he cautiously approached asking if he could point something out.

He caught on to my angst of being told by yet another person how I could fix my game.

He softly responded, “I am not going to give you any advice, just point out something I observed and I would be happy to share  it with you.”  He has been very nice during our playing time, putting up with my crappy game, so I apologized and told him I welcomed his input.

He nodded, looked me right in the eyes and said, “Your poor ball striking has nothing to do with your grip or swing.”  He continued, “your stance and approach are not the issue either.”

I was puzzled, and inquired “then what the heck is it?”

He replied pointing toward me, “it’s your loft!”

“My loft?” I said, confused. “Am I standing with the ball too far forward or back?”

“Nope, it is purely your loft!”.

“So, then my clubs are defective?”

He shook his head and spoke with greater emphasis, “nope, LOFT!

“Can you just tell me what this LOFT problem is?” I snapped.
“Sure, It’s your Lack Of F*ing Talent.”
